For the properly functioning body, movement should not be difficult or painful.  In fact, all movement can and should be light, free, efficient, painless and easy.   For many people, movement is none of these.  

 
As babies, we lack strength to move ourselves readily and so we develop strategies for using what we have to accomplish our movements.  As we get older, we grow strong and so can force ourselves to move through sheer strength; we often lose that efficiency and ease that babies seem to have.  But, when we force ourselves, we also begin to develop movement habits that are inefficient and often cause pain and difficulty.

 It doesn’t have to be that way.


At Mind/Body Wisdom, I use the Feldenkrais Method as a part of my physical therapy practice to provide for the best possible outcomes for my clients. 

I work with people of all ages and who have issues ranging from back pain to neurological problems arising from head injury, stroke and disease.  I have worked with all parts of the body.  In fact, it is much more accurate to say that I work with the entire body, no matter the apparent problem, You see:

There is a song, written many years ago, that starts:


 

                        “Toe bone connected to the foot bone,

                          Foot bone connected to the ankle bone,

                          Ankle bone connected to the leg bone,”

 

and so on all the way up to the head.  In terms of the Feldenkrais Method, this song is absolutely correct:  every part of the body is connected to every other part and it acts as a whole.  But not just the bones. The muscles are involved.  And the entire body is under the control of the nervous system.  With Feldenkrais, I work with the muscles and bones to talk to and educate the nervous system.
